TOMRA Sorting adds value to PET recycling in Kolkota, India

21 March 2013

Advanced recycling technology designed by TOMRA Sorting has significantly increased the market value and profitability of recycled PET for a Kolkata-based PET recycling company. Two brothers, Deepak and Praveen Rungta, who own and operate Rungta Mouldings, called in the experts at TOMRA Sorting to help achieve a consistent and high purity level of recycled PET.

Praveen Rungta comments: “Achieving higher purity levels in recycled PET was a real challenge for us. Previously all sorting was done manually, which meant that we were only able to sell our processed material to polyester fibre manufacturers that would accept a significant amount of contamination. TOMRA Sorting’s sensor based sorting systems - TITECH autosort - have transformed our business. By removing the PVC and other contaminants, we can now sell our material at a higher price to end users such as the sheet/reform industry, who require higher levels of purity”.
