Technical Sales Associate (TSA)

The Technical Sales Associate (TSA) is responsible for supporting the sales team for TOMRA Sorting Solutions Food (TSS Food) and for selling optical sorting equipment to customers in North America (USA, Canada and Mexico) and potential countries abroad.

We are seeking a junior, dynamic, technically savvy Sales Associate to be a part of our sales team at TOMRA. We are the world-leader in the design and manufacture of hi-tech industrial equipment that sorts defects from fast moving product stream in food and non-food bulk processing industries. Our machines employ lasers, high-speed cameras, and other advanced technologies to inspect and detect out-of-spec products and foreign material which is then removed from the stream using jets of compressed air.

Roles and responsibilities


  • Provide support to the sales team by relieving them of administrative work (duties may include order processing/entry, price quotations, information input and management, RFP response, product training or other related tasks)
  • Support and develop opportunities for the sales team so they can achieve the annual revenue (machine sales)
  • Follow, assist and shadow Senior Sales Managers to potentialy grow into a similar position over time
  • Regular visits to customer sites meeting engineering, operations and maintenance personnel (vertical depth of contact)
  • Regular visits with agents/OEM’s to agent customer bases
  • Regular visits with TSS Food Area Sales Managers
  • Generate competitor information on TSS Food database
  • Prepare market information on new applications and assist ASM to prepare for presenting information to the Sales Director
  • Be present and assist in new machine startups
  • Attend trade shows
  • Follow up on all customer questions regarding their products and support issues
  • Review customer layouts
  • Technical resource for customer and TSS Food staff related to products
  • Ensure all relevant proposals, order confirmations and updated CRM package are maintained in accordance with company policies


  • Foster and maintain excellent relations with Area Sales Managers and customers
  • Update Sales Force database for specific territories
  • Manage and create sales documention after a customer visit
  • Prepare and assist creation of proposal generation to territory customers meeting TSS Food policy on pricing and terms directly or through TSS Food resources
  • Ensure regular visits are made to customers in a planned and cost effective manner
  • Are technically proficient regarding all products sold
  • Offer customer solutions to their problems rather than stand alone products
  • Report on competition sales and product activities to the director

Candidate profile

  • 0 - 4 years of experience in selling capital industrial equipment in an industry
  • Excellent commercial skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required
  • Excellent teamwork skills are critical
  • Strong technical background is a must


B.S. in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, General Engineering or Economics

  • High tolerance for working in a fast paced and occasional stressful conditions
  • An understanding of the food processing industry is a significant plus
  • Ability to travel intensively both domestically and internationally
