Slag Metals Sorting

Sorting metal slag using sensor-based technology is one of the most efficient ways to recover valuable raw materials.

Slag Metal Sorting

Any melting process in industry produces metal and a by-product, called slag. Up to 15% of slag in the sortable size range consists of metals - either on the surface or encapsulated - which are valuable raw materials. Through recovering these constituents, we preserve resources, cut costs and are often able to reduce reliance on short dumping terrains, where material still containing valuable content is stockpiled. Demand to recover these metals is therefore rising.

Our dry sensor-based metal slag sorting system processes and separates high volumes of material efficiently. Sorting algorithms can be varied easily, to separate different types of slag and/or metal.

The flexible modular design also allows plants to be mobile and means the system can dovetail with others to create a complete turnkey line. Sensor-based sorting is also completely dry, requiring no water or expensive water treatment system, and allowing long operational uptimes under constant conditions.

Benefits of sensor-based slag metal sorting at a glance:

  • Free metal recovery: Separating non-magnetic metallic particles effectively means earning revenue at low cost.
  • Disseminated metal concentration: Concentrating metal containing slag particles before it undergoes separation, through crushing and jigging, protects crushers at little expense.
  • Disseminated metal removal: Reducing metal content through effective sensor-based sorting enables producers to sell safe slag products as aggregates and grinding media.
