TOMRA’s solutions can help address sustainability challenges related to resource scarcity and depletion, unsustainable consumption, climate change, urbanization, and waste in nature. Our current focus and ambition for sustainability at TOMRA is that we want to get to a point where sustainability is the natural way of thinking and doing business across the company in all contexts.

Our approach

At TOMRA, we define corporate sustainability as the management of business relevant environmental (E), social (S) and corporate governance (G) issues. With the recognition that relevant ESG issues occur across business functions and can have an impact on various parts of the organization. We have taken an integrated approach to sustainability management, anchored in Group Strategy.

TOMRA’s Path to Net Zero

As climate challenges intensify and global temperatures continue to rise, TOMRA is committed to taking decisive action. Our Science Based Targets (SBTs) are designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with the ultimate goal of reaching net- zero by 2050.

Why science-based targets matter

The ten hottest years on record have occurred in the past decade, highlighting the need for immediate action. As a global leader, TOMRA recognizes its responsibility to be part of the solution. Our ambitious SBTs, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), ensure we are aligned with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to below 1.5°C, a critical threshold to avoid the most severe impacts of climate change.

The road to net-zero

Setting targets is only the beginning. Achieving net- zero requires us to decarbonize our entire value chain, from product design to collaborations with customers and suppliers. TOMRA’s Net Zero Program outlines our approach, emphasizing sustainable innovation and deep engagement across all aspects of our operations.

This transformation will demand rapid change, but it's also our best path to addressing the climate crisis while ensuring long-term growth and competitiveness.

TOMRA aims to double its size within the next five years, while reducing our carbon footprint. We believe this is possible by decoupling financial growth from emissions through business model innovation and embedding sustainability into every part of our strategy.

TOMRA is fully committed to delivering on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As "leaders of the Resource Revolution", sustainable development is at the core of our business model and strategy. TOMRA is a solutions provider in the necessary transition to a resource-efficient, low-carbon economy. With increasing demand for sustainable products and solutions there are opportunities for us to deliver significant positive impacts across several of the SDGs. An assessment of our activities reveals on SDG in particular where our contribution delivers the most impact: SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production.
