Accessibility statement for tomra.com

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

The tomra.com website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

The latest WCAG audit of our website based on WCAG Evaluation Methodology was done in March 2023 by ItumX AS employee Bogdan Cerovac, Web Accessibility Specialist. The results of this audit showed that 25 out of 50 WCAG success criteria on levels A and AA failed, 17 passed, 7 were inapplicable and 1 couldn't be tested. Between March and June of 2023 we worked a lot to improve the critical accessibility issues and will continue to do so in the future.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of tomra.com, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of currently known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

  1. Missing alternative texts: Some parts of content have missing or incorrect text alternatives, for example images, infographics, videos and podcasts. We are working towards a systematic alternative text policy that will make sure all content providers provide sufficient alternative texts. Please let us know if you encounter an issue and we will do our best to provide you with an alternative.
  2. Headings and document outline: Some pages have suboptimal heading structure causing an illogical document outline, and in some cases headings are not used to define document hierarchy but to decorate text or define quotes. We are working to address these instances by implementing a logical and hierarchical semantic heading structure. Document outline may be more difficult to perceive on some pages but it should still be possible to understand the content. Please let us know if you need some additional information.
  3. Tables: Some tables don't provide or reflect necessary semantics on code level because some table components have not been used correctly or the correct semantics have not been employed. We are working on semantic support in code and working to implement fully accessible tables in our content. Please let us know if you need alternative formats instead of tables or any other info.
  4. Certain forms and advanced interactive components: Some forms and advanced interactive components like faceted search, sustainability infographics and so on may not work with all assistive technology. because Some components used are not conforming to WCAG and need additional efforts to be more accessible. We are continuously focusing on fixing important interactive components based on popularity and importance. Please let us know if you experience problems using forms and interactive components so that we can prioritize better and make them more accessible as soon as possible.
  5. Google Maps: We use Google Maps to show our locations and more. Geospatial information on the Web is inadequately covered by Web standards and almost always fails on at least some points of WCAG. This can raise significant barriers to its effective use by groups of people, especially people that can't see the screen. Google is working on some improvements but it does not claim conformance as it's very difficult to provide all needed information in text form alone. Please reach out if you need alternative descriptions.
