Danish City’s Unique System for Reusable Coffee Cups

On your way to work do you pick up a take-away coffee? Then you are far from alone. These cups are usually disposed of in the trash and that adds up to a lot of extra waste in landfills. But now there is an alternative to single-use coffee cups. A Danish city is trialing a reusable cup that can be used and returned like plastic drink bottles and cans.

Danish city reveals first year of data from reusable packaging pilot

In January 2024, the city of Aarhus in Denmark launched a three-year pilot project for reusable takeaway packaging, seeking to establish a proof-of-concept to demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of shifting from single-use to reusable takeaway packaging, and the requirements for large scale development.

The first was the involvement of the multinational company in Lucara’s discovery of one of the largest rough-cut diamonds in recorded history. Lucara Diamond used Tomra X-ray transmission technology when it recovered the diamond at its Karowe mine in Botswana.

TOMRA Mining’s advanced sorting technology used in the world’s largest lithium ore sorting plant at Pilbara Minerals' Pilangoora Operation

TOMRA Mining’s advanced technology and unique experience in designing and installing large-scale ore-sorting plants were key to the successful completion of the world’s largest lithium sorting plant. The sorting installation, part of Pilbara Minerals’ P680 Expansion Project, has a capacity of more than 1,000 tonnes per hour, and demonstrates the power of TOMRA’s cutting-edge technology to improve overall ore recovery and reduce energy consumption through early and effective waste reduction.
